WIN STREAK
Warriors Rack Up Their Second Straight Dub Saturday
By Brandon Petersen
The Westcliff women's volleyball team made quick work of Justice College on Saturday, sweeping the new program 25-10, 25-16, 25-16 at OCC.
Stacy Folas was the standout of the match, hammering down 13 kills on a .391 hitting percentage.
"Stacy's been working on a more patient approach, and it showed tonight," Westcliff head coach Greg Wakeham said. "She's getting off the net, taking real athletic approaches, and that gives her all the options — hit it hard, tip, or roll. It's intimidating for the other side."
Renee Lepage was also sharp, finishing with seven kills on a .545 clip.
Amaya Ruiz Keovilaysane added five aces of her own as the Warriors piled up 13 from the service line.
Joliayns Roman chipped in nine kills on a .350 mark, and Samantha Carelock and Serena Comer combined for 8 more.
Wakeham said the balanced performance reflected the rhythm his group has been building.
"We were in a pretty good groove coming out of Occidental, and we carried that into today," he said. "What I like is that more kids are getting involved in both our offensive and defensive strategy. That's fun for the team."
Despite the lopsided score, Wakeham credited Justice for competing hard in just their second-ever match against the Warriors.
"They've got some good young players," he said. "They're only going to keep improving. We like playing them."
The Warriors (3-8) return to the court Tuesday for a road test at Redlands.
First serve is scheduled for 6 pm.
