The Westcliff women's volleyball team delivered a birthday party to remember Wednesday night, sweeping Occidental 3–0 on the road to notch another early-season victory.
Amanda Ferreira, celebrating her birthday, took over the third set with four straight aces to seal the match and earn player of the match honors.
"We had Amanda setting — it's her birthday — she served four aces in a row to win the third game, so she's player of the match," head coach Greg Wakeham said.
The Warriors showed balance all evening.
Stacy Folas hammered down 12 kills to lead the offense.
Samantha Carelock and Renae Lepage chipped in strong attacking performances, while Amaya Ruiz Keovilaysane made her presence felt from the service line.
Wakeham praised the way his group blended roles. "We took advantage of Amaya serving and let Amanda hit a couple of rotations, which helped a lot," he said. "And then strong performances from Stacy, Rena, and Sam. It was a fun night."
Westcliff improved to 2–6 and now look ahead to Saturday, when they'll return to the court hoping to keep building momentum as the Cal Pac docket approaches.
Justice comes calling at OCC.
First serve is set for 1 pm.
Said Wakeham: "We look forward to Saturday and seeing everyone in a groove."
