Warriors Grind Out Road Win on WCB’s Sr. Night
By Brandon Petersen
The Westcliff women's volleyball team fought through lineup changes and road fatigue to post a 3–1 win over West Coast Baptist on Tuesday night in Lancaster.
With setters Amanda Ferreira and Joliayns Roman unavailable, head coach Greg Wakeham shuffled the rotation and leaned on versatility across the roster.
Lauren Phinnessee moved between roles and even helped run the offense late, while Stacy Folas and Samantha Carelock rotated into the middle to expand the Warriors' attack.
Carelock led the way with 14 kills, six aces, and five blocks, while Folas added 15 kills.
Daniela Sandoval posted 28 digs and two aces, and Renee Lepage and Phinnessee each chipped in two service aces.
Westcliff hit .102 as a team but found rhythm at key moments, taking control in the first two sets and closing with a dominant fourth.
"Tonight was sort of a mental battle," Wakeham said. "We had a new lineup, so there were some different rotations, and everybody had kind of a new role. When we were organized and playing well, we had some really good scoring runs."
The Warriors also embraced the lively environment at West Coast Baptist.
"It's difficult to play there because we have so many fans that come, and it feels like it's always their senior night," Wakeham said. "They're extremely supportive, and it's always fun to come. In the end, it was just a good kind of rough win — a mental battle with some mildly frustrating new rotations."
The win moves Westcliff to 8–12 overall.
Next up is Park-Gilbert, Wednesday at Momentous.
First serve is scheduled for noon.
