The Westcliff women's soccer team capped its Oregon road swing with a statement, grinding out a 3-1 win over Southern Oregon on Friday to stay unbeaten through the opening stretch of the season.
Two goals in the first half set the tone for the Warriors (3-0-1).
Samantha Aguila opened the scoring in the 17th minute off an Andrea Reyes feed, and Isabella Bottero doubled the lead before halftime, finishing a pass from freshman Emma Albino.
After the Raiders pulled one back early in the second half, Albino answered immediately, scoring less than a minute later off a ball from Jordyn Gather to put the match out of reach.
Westcliff was outshot 14-11 but made the most of its chances, while goalkeeper Kayli Cokley turned away four shots to seal the result.
"Wow. What an incredible group we have," head coach Jack Gidney said. "Two games up here back-to-back against incredibly tough opposition. We were walking wounded this morning, had to change the shape, and made this a game about character and grit.
"The girls were absolutely incredible. They dug in, the sideline was magnificent, and even against adversity they immediately punched back to put the game away.
"I'm so proud of them."
With the win, the Warriors remain unbeaten and will now return home.
They face Caltech on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Great Park in Irvine.
