Warriors Win Second OT in a Row
For the second consecutive game, the Westcliff women's basketball team found themselves in an overtime battle, and for the second time in a row, they were the team cheering at the end.
The Warriors got the stops they needed during those crucial overtime minutes and were able to be rewarded on the offensive end as they took down Embry-Riddle 62-52.
"It's just literally our heart and grit on defense," said head coach Kyle Rouse after the win. "Today proved that. Five minutes of overtime and we allowed just two points. We did a great job contesting and not giving them easy shots. That's been the difference in the last two games."
The Warriors were down after the first two quarters and headed into the halftime break knowing they had to overcome the double-digit deficit.
They made the adjustments during the break and it paid off as they won the third quarter 19-11. As the fourth quarter started, Westcliff had cut down the deficit to just three points and was looking like the team with more confidence.
But it still came down to the wire and after an eventful last minute, both teams finished all tied up, which meant we would play for another five minutes.
Eva Taylor played so well in the fourth and overtime periods as she knocked down a three to put the Warriors up 55-50.
Off the bench, Camryn McMahan was huge with a couple of baskets in the added time as Westcliff shot 50% and went 5-6 from the free-throw line.
They held the Eagles to just two points and looked like the team with more energy and motivation even after playing extra minutes in their previous game.
With the win, the Warriors improved to (7-6, Cal Pac 5-3) and are in the fourth spot in the standings.
Taylor finished with a game-high 20 points, with four assists, four rebounds, and three steals.
Valisa Millhouse struggled shooting the ball but still scored 12 points, grabbed eight rebounds, had four assists, and five steals.
