The Westcliff men's volleyball team stayed perfect in conference play Saturday night, sweeping Pacific Union 25-16, 25-14, 25-19 at Golden West College.
The Warriors improved to 14-4 overall and 6-0 in conference with the straight-sets victory, controlling the match from start to finish behind a balanced offensive effort and efficient team hitting.
Westcliff hit .282 for the match and held Pacific Union to a -.037 attacking percentage, forcing 22 errors from the Pioneers across the three sets.
Gabriel Pizza led the Warriors offensively with 12 kills and added eight digs. Tom Dempsey chipped in seven kills while Tiago Silva and M'hamed Mifdal each added five. Silva posted an efficient .400 hitting percentage while Mifdal hit .455 without committing an error.
The Warriors set the tone early in the opening frame, using a steady run of kills and PUC errors to pull away for a 25-16 win.
Westcliff's offense found another gear in the second set, hitting .409 while limiting mistakes to take a commanding 2-0 lead with a 25-14 victory.
Pacific Union showed more resistance in the third set, but the Warriors remained in control, closing out the sweep with a 25-19 win.
Nikos Kalagasidis directed the offense with 16 assists while Jonny Pearson added 15 assists in the two-setter system. Sebastian Ignaczak anchored the defense with a team-high 11 digs.
Despite the decisive result, head coach Alex Griffiths said the Warriors still have room to improve.
"Definitely could have been cleaner," she said. "I think we've got some work to do before we head on our NorCal trip."
Westcliff will look to tighten up its play as the Warriors continue conference action on the road next week in Angwin and Redding.
