The Westcliff women's beach volleyball team remained unbeaten Saturday at the Great Park with a pair of impressive wins, 5-0 over Marymount California and 4-1 over Saint Katherine.
The Firebirds came into the contest the No. 5 ranked team nationally by the NAIA Top 10 Coaches' Poll.
That didn't matter much to the Warriors, who currently sit just outside of the Top 10 with 26 received votes, as they took it to the reigning Cal Pac champions, claiming all four wins without dropping a single set.
"It was a total team effort to pull out the win against (SK)," Westcliff head coach Kenny Ma said. "It was very impressive to see how composed our athletes attacked the game.
"We came into the match with an underdog mentality with a lot of fire and purpose."
It didn't hurt that the Warriors started the day by sweeping MCU, including Westcliff's exhibition pair, again, without dropping a single set.
Westcliff went 6-0 against MCU, 12-0 in sets.
"Against Marymount, we had a little mixture of teams that had a slow start, and teams that just took control of the match," Ma said. "Very happy that we were able to pull out a sweep."
Ma was particularly impressed with the duo of Kylie Cordero and Brooke Scheidle, the Warriors' No. 2 pair.
"The game started off slow with our pair being down four to six points," Ma said. "But Kylie and Brooke battled back from the deficit and took control of the match."
Cordero and Scheidle won both sets, 21-14.
Up next, the Warriors face off against Hope International Wednesday at the Great Park.
First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
