Westcliff University has announced the hiring of Michael Ma as the new men’s indoor volleyball head coach.

Ma worked as a graduate assistant for Westcliff two years ago, before moving on to the University of Arizona last year, where he focused on training liberos and defensive specialists for the Wildcats’ women’s team.

At Arizona, Ma helped the Wildcats to a No. 5 Pac-12 ranking in total digs, and helped oversee the development of a libero who broke the school’s all-time digs record for a freshman.

“Coach Michael Ma comes back to the Westcliff family after gaining a wealth of experience in coaching and supporting on the D-I level,” Westcliff Dean of Athletics Shawn Harris said. “I am extremely excited for the future of men’s volleyball under his leadership.

“Our 5 C’s culture just got better. It’s go time!”

Ma is currently the head coach of two girls programs at the Seal Beach Volleyball Club, and was previously the varsity assistant coach of the boy’s program at Cypress high school.

Ma graduated in 2016 from Long Beach State with a bachelor of science in Business Administration.
