The Westcliff University women’s basketball team fell to Cal Maritime, 71-57, Saturday at Santiago Canyon College in Orange.
After a back-and-forth first quarter left the score knotted at 19 apiece, Cal Maritime took control, winning every quarter the rest of the way for the drama-free victory.
“We just weren’t consistent on both sides of the ball,” Westcliff head coach Kyle Rouse said. “We’ll have a great possession on defense and then give it up on a second-chance. We’re just not consistent, and that’s been the story of our season so far.”
Murrellene Woodson was fantastic, especially from range, connecting on 4-of-7 from three for a team-high 14 points to complement five boards, three dimes and two steals.
Lauren Davis and Tiffany Lucci turned in 13 and 11, respectively, while Mia Jones chipped in seven and Mary Dishoian added six.
Andrece Tate (five rebounds) led the distribution with four assists.
The Warriors will now take nine days off to celebrate the holidays before kicking it back into gear for the second half of the season.
Up first will be a pair of challenging contests against Antelope Valley and UCI.
The Anteaters will be the fourth Division I opponent Westcliff has played this season.
