Coming off a hard-fought battle against Vanguard Wednesday, the Westcliff women’s soccer team headed out on the road for a scrimmage with the University of Antelope Valley Thursday in Lancaster.

It was another tooth-and-nail effort for the Warriors, who are quickly building a reputation as a leave-it-all-on-the-field group.

“It was another well-fought battle by our ladies,” Westcliff men’s soccer head coach Joey O’Keefe said. “We brought lots of intensity to the beginning of the game, but the effects of playing a full game (Wednesday) started to wear in the players’ legs.”

Antelope Valley is a perennial playoff team in the Cal Pac conference, and O’Keefe was impressed Westcliff was able to hold its own in back-to-back contests against powerhouse programs.

“We are proud as coaches to see our ladies continually push their bodies to the limit, even through muscle strain or cramping,” O’keefe said. “We couldn’t be happier, and the team is proud of what they accomplished in the last 24 hours.”

Westcliff now heads to Arizona for a Thursday match against Ottawa Christian.
