Westcliff University had a "first" today as the new Surf Program acquired and signed its first signee for the upcoming inaugural season next school year.
The surf program is excited to add Robert Crist as the first official surf team member. Robby comes to Westcliff via San Juan Hills High School and then Saddleback College. He is a Mission Viejo native who loves his local breaks at Salt Creek and 56th street in Newport Beach.
Westcliff University is trying to bring surfing into the mainstream in college athletics by making it a part of its athletic programs just like any other sport. Head Surf Coach, Kyle Rouse says, "Surfers are great athletes too, they should have the same opportunity as other athletes to pursue their athletic surfing goals while getting their education at the highest level. I am very excited that Westcliff Athletics has chosen to make this a priority, it will be great for the community and the college surf culture".
Westcliff will look to continue filling out the 9 athlete team by recruiting local and non-local surfers looking to keep pursuing their goals in surfing and education.
