GRAND CHAMPIONS!

Excellence has become the expectation for Westcliff University Cheer, but even by the program's rising standard, this latest achievement marked a defining milestone.

Competing at the 2026 USA Collegiate Championships inside the Anaheim Convention Center, the Warriors delivered two flawless performances – literally – capturing first place in the 4-Year College Large Coed Advanced division and earn Grand Champion honors — the highest overall score across all divisions at the event.

For head coach Eric Anderson, the victory represented more than another title. It reflected the continued evolution of a program that has steadily established itself among the nation's elite.

"I was extremely impressed with how our team performed overall," Anderson said. "They were locked in, focused, and fully committed to the goal."

The event featured more than 100 collegiate teams and included a competitive field in Westcliff's division with programs such as the University of Hawaiʻi, University of Montana, Idaho State University, Washington State University, and Southern Utah University.

A Championship Built on Precision

Westcliff set the tone immediately during preliminary competition, delivering a zero-deduction routine that earned a record-setting score of 97.00 and placed the Warriors atop the standings entering finals.

Despite holding the early lead, Anderson admitted the reset heading into Day 2 added pressure.

"Every team starts from zero," he said. "Going into Day 2, I was honestly nervous."

Instead of tightening under expectations, the Warriors elevated their performance.

They executed another zero-deduction routine, surpassing their own record with a score of 97.6 to secure the championship for the third consecutive year at the event. The performance also earned Westcliff Grand Champion honors for the first time in program history — an achievement underscoring the team's consistency and execution on the national stage.

Culture as the Competitive Edge

While scores and trophies define results, Anderson believes the team's identity — shaped by leadership and collective accountability — has become the program's greatest strength.

"This team truly stands out," Anderson said. "We have a strong group of leaders who take ownership of the program and actively mentor our younger athletes. They are pushing our culture forward, which has allowed us as coaches to elevate the program even further."

According to Anderson, unity and shared purpose have been the driving force behind the Warriors' success.

"One of our team leaders said it best: 'This year, we need togetherness. Success isn't about individuals — it's about what we do together.' That mindset defined this season."

The approach reflects a culture built on consistency and progression rather than momentary success — a philosophy that has helped establish Westcliff as a perennial contender. The Warriors enter the season as reigning NCA National Champions, having captured two NCA titles in the last three years, further cementing the program's reputation for sustained excellence.

Anderson's Philosophy and Adaptability

Anderson's coaching philosophy remains rooted in disciplined preparation and relentless repetition.

"Train like champions," he said. "Focus on progression. Do the work and get the reps. Don't do it until you get it right — do it until you can't get it wrong."

That philosophy was tested this season after the program lost its strength and conditioning coach, forcing the staff to adjust training structures mid-year. Rather than disrupting momentum, the challenge became another opportunity for growth.

"We had to adapt and bring in outside support," Anderson said. "Despite that challenge, the athletes remained disciplined, hardworking, and focused."

For Anderson, success ultimately comes down to performance under pressure.

"I define success by effort, accountability, and execution," he said. "We set the bar high. I wasn't sure how we would stack up against major Division I programs this year, but not only did we win our division — we were named Grand Champions."

Eyes on Daytona

With another championship secured, the Warriors' focus quickly shifts toward their next major test: the 2026 NCA College Cheer & Dance Nationals in Daytona Beach, Florida.

"I truly believe we can continue to improve," Anderson said. "The team is incredibly motivated and excited for what's ahead."

If recent history is any indication, Westcliff's trajectory shows no signs of slowing.
