Westcliff University Announces Pause of 2025–26 Women’s Basketball Season
IRVINE, Calif. — Westcliff University has announced that it will not compete in the remaining games of the 2025–26 women's basketball season due to an unprecedented number of season-ending injuries that have significantly reduced the number of available healthy student-athletes.
The decision was made in consultation with the California Pacific Conference (Cal Pac) and reflects Westcliff's commitment to the health, safety, and well-being of its student-athletes.
"After careful evaluation, we determined that continuing competition under these circumstances would not be in the best interest of our student-athletes," said Westcliff Athletic Director Cesar Rivas. "The safety of our players is our top priority, and this decision allows us to focus fully on their recovery while maintaining the long-term strength of our program."
As a result, Westcliff's remaining contests will not be played during the 2025–26 season. Conference standings and scheduling adjustments will be handled in accordance with Cal Pac and NAIA guidelines.
Westcliff University remains fully committed to women's basketball and is already actively engaged in retention and recruiting efforts for the 2026–27 season. The program will continue to operate normally moving forward, with a full return to competition planned for next year.
"Our focus now is supporting our current student-athletes and building toward a strong future," Rivas added. "We are confident in the direction of our program and excited about what lies ahead."
