The Westcliff Women’s Basketball team had one of their best showings of the year today against Simpson University. The Warriors scored the 2nd most points of the season, and Jordan Pierce managed to break her own 3 point shooting record, connecting for 9 total and scoring her new career high 27 points.
The Warriors put on a strong performance for much of the game, and found themselves right on Simpson’s heels for three of the four quarters. At half time, they surely felt as though they could still go on and win the game, only down 38-41. But Simpon found a burst in the 3rd quarter, as they surged past the Warriors leading at one point by 17; it would be all the cushion they needed to go on and win the game.
The Warriors remained resilient, however, bouncing back to trade even blows, outscoring the Redhawks 20-17 in the fourth quarter. Simpson ultimately pulled out the win with a final score of 76-65.
Two other Warriors finished in double digits alongside Jordan Pierce. Patty McClure-Tidwell added her season high 15 points. Champelle Kelly had her 10th double digit game this season, contributing 10 points in the game. The Warriors continue to compete and establish the foundation of the program in it’s inaugural season. The decline in turnovers and the increase in the team’s shooting percentage have shown improvement in the team’s season.
The Warriors play Dickinson State on December 17th.
