Men’s Beach Volleyball Conclude Competition in the Collegiate Beach League

Irvine, Calif. – The warriors spent the month of October competing every Saturday in the 10 team men’s collegiate beach league at Irvine Valley College. Three pairs competed each week, with pairs varying each week. In their very first competition on week 1, the warriors bested Santa Monica College (2-1).

The warriors continued to show a tremendous amount of progress each week, with TJ Meyer/Rene Maza winning all their matches in their first day of play as a pair in week 2 of competition. The duo of Marques Buggs/Andrew Pearson went undefeated in their first foray into competition in week 3, including beating a previously unbeaten team from Santa Barbara CC. League play concluded with playoffs on the 27th, with the morning beginning with an inspirational speech from Olympic medalist (2008-gold & 2016-bronze) and current AVP pro beach player, Reid Priddy, to kick off the final day of competition.

The warriors started playoffs strong, eliminating the University of St. Katherine in the first round (2-1). The warriors fought hard in the next round and battled the #1 seed, Santa Barbara CC, but were just edged out to the eventual champions. The individual pair of Marques Buggs/Andrew Pearson was the only undefeated pair in the entire competition.

The beach warriors will hit the sand again in one more fall match versus the University of Saint Katherine before going on hiatus until they return to the sand in the spring.
